Cinemark adopts subscription model

Theater chain adopts subscription model

Cinemark, the third-largest cinema chain by locations in the United States, announced the launch of a monthly subscription service for movies on Tuesday, reports The Wall Street Journal. For $8.99, customers can see one movie a month and get a discount on additional tickets and concessions. Members in Cinemark’s Movie Club can roll over unused benefits to the next month. It’s the first-ever subscription service of its kind by a theater chain and looks to challenge MoviePass, a subscription service that costs around $10 per month. Cinemark has 533 theaters and 5,957 screens in the US and Latin America, according to its website.
